There are several foods to stay away from to prevent the brackets from breaking. It would be impossible to name ever food to avoid so here is a chart with some basic rules to follow:
- Chewy or Sticky foods: caramels, gum, licorice, etc.
- Hard or Crunchy foods: ice, popcorn, nuts, hard rolls, etc.
- Foods you have to bite into: apples, corn on the cob, carrots, etc. Tip: cut these into smaller pieces to chew on your back teeth instead.
